TowZone
Tow truck driver killed in Route 1 crash with tractor-trailer A tow truck driver was killed early Monday in a crash with tractor-trailer on Route 1 in North Brunswick, authorities said. Edward Smith Jr. was attempting to make a left turn from Adams Lane onto Route 1 north when an oncoming tractor-trailer slammed into the tow truck, according to North Brunswick police. The impact of the 12:20 a.m. collision threw Smith from the tow truck and pushed it into a parked car at an auto dealership, police said. Smith, 41, of North Brunswick, was pronounced dead at the scene after police and emergency workers attempted life-saving measures, according to Capt. Brian Hoiberg. Though the investigation is ongoing, no charges are likely to be filed, Hoiberg said. Route 1 was closed for several hours as crews worked to repair a damaged utility pole and clean up a fuel spill. One lane is still shut as of 11:30 a.m. Anyone with any information about the crash is asked to call officer Jason Vallese at 732-247-0922 x320.
