NSC-Award-300x208.jpgMurphy-Hoffman Company (MHC) has announced that it won the Safety Excellence award from the National Safety Council’s Green Cross for Safety program. MHC was recognized for its highly effective vehicle safety program, which was developed in 2012 to train employees on the importance of defensive driving skills.

The National Safety Council Green Cross for Safety awards recognize a variety of outstanding projects and organizations working to support the mission to save lives and prevent injuries. Companies that win in the Safety Excellence category have a proven track record for boosting driver safety. This is the first time MHC has earned this prestigious designation. The program’s champion, Corporate Safety Manager Clint Brocato, accepted the award on behalf of MHC.

“This national recognition is a testament to our employees’ commitment to safety every time they get behind the wheel,” MHC CEO Mike Murphy said. “Some of our drivers average over 50,000 miles in an MHC vehicle annually. Our Safety department has done an outstanding job of supporting MHC’s mission to provide employees with a responsive, safe and superior working environment. They have aided us in decreasing collisions while increasing driver awareness.”

MHC’s vehicle safety program has been largely successful in decreasing collisions and increasing driver awareness. Since inception, the program has seen:

• 30 percent increase in overall fleet size
• 36 percent decrease in preventable collisions
• 57 percent decrease in MHC’s top five coachable driving behaviors
• 78 percent decrease in total liability costs
• 95 percent increase in Safe Driver award winners

“National Safety Council award winners don’t just aim to check off a box for safety,” said Lorraine Martin, president and CEO of the National Safety Council. “These leaders understand that they must prioritize safety at every level of decision making. We are proud to honor each of our nominees and incredible winners, all of whom are committed to working alongside NSC to save lives, from the workplace to anyplace.”

Located across 19 states, MHC is a network of over 125 locations, including 73 heavy and medium duty truck dealers, 28 MHC Truck Leasing locations, 13 Carrier Transicold locations and a wholly owned finance company, MHC Financial Services. MHC features Kenworth, Volvo, Hino, Ford and Isuzu trucks.
