Hey Ron ... could you please add a rocker for AFRICA in the International section of the TowForce page?

I’m sharing a “TOWER DOWN” notifcation; not caused by motorists or tow truck crashes, but from an act of violence with ear-markings of a movie plot.

An international contact of mine sent me a link to a deadly shooting death of a tow operator 2-week’s ago. I guess this one slipped through the cracks.

An ambush occurred after three or four vehicles with reportedly a dozen or so heavily armed shooters first ambushed an armored car in, Florida, an area outside of Johannesburg. According to Africa’s media, there have been a string of armored car robberies in the past weeks … all said to be gang related.

The tow truck driver (who isn’t identified) witnessed the attack, and followed the get-away suspects in his truck, notified the police, and ultimately was shot in the chest by the suspects during the rolling chase. There's not much mention of the tow truck shooting.

Here are three-articles (of many) as confirmation to the shooting:

Note:  In a like-type homicide in Maryland, 1981, Harold Benjamin Dean, robbed an armor truck, and was chased by a tow truck driver who Dean shot and killed. Dean was captured and at one-time escaped the prison he was incarcerated captured 10-months later.

While the tow operator’s intent was honorable, the tower lost his life. None-the-less, Christine and I send our prayers tow this tower’s family in this senseless act of cowardly violence.            R.
