TowNews
Teen cyclist hospitalized after falling underneath moving tow truck, cops say A 15-year-old girl remained hospitalized Thursday, one day after falling from her bicycle and being run over by a tow truck in South Jersey, according to police. The teenager was flown to Cooper University Medical Center late Wednesday afternoon after the crash around 4:49 p.m., Egg Harbor Township police said. The teen was cycling northbound on Ocean Heights Avenue, riding on the road’s shoulder opposite the tow truck, police said. The teenager lost her balance and fell from her bike near Blackman Road, sending her onto the pavement and underneath the vehicle’s rear tires. The cyclist and truck had not collided prior to her falling beneath the vehicle, police said, describing the crash as an “unfortunate accident.” The truck was traveling in slow-moving traffic, police said. Driver impairment or recklessness is not considered a factor. Police did not provide more information about the truck, including to which towing company it belongs, or describe the teen’s injuries.
