We started out Donald Ellis Wrecker Service then Ellis Wrecker Service and since 2006 it’s been Ellis Towing.

The trucks have been red and white through out most of our history.

In 1999 we went to solid red then red & yellow. There will still be some white and red trucks and due to the

difficulties of getting trucks other colors out running but with two new heavy’s and several new light duties

on order we have decided to switched our company colors to red & black.

Hopefully in the future we will be able to get the majority of the fleet one color.

Customer called and requested our skidder wrecker to recover a Sky Trim that had over turned in the woods.

Surveying the scene we knew we could not get any trucks to the location and it was not coming out the way

it went into the job. We walked up the hill through the woods and decided to take it straight up out of there

knowing we could not steer it and there was very little chance of getting the brakes released.

The skidder could upright and bring it 75% up the hill but would need to reposition and help maneuvering

around a couple of trees so a large excavator was also brought to the scene.

After clearing a path with chain saws and a bush hog the recovery began.

Skidder was rigged to the Sky Trim uprighted and recovered up hill.

After it was almost to the top the excavator held it while the skidder was repositioned.

then we maneuvered it around trees and brought it sideways to get it on level ground so it could be safely worked on.

A big Thank You to Mark Hurst, Pat Rogers , Patrick Rogers and Elijah Rogers for being able to to respond quick, provide

large excavators and dozers with professional operators no matter if it’s 1:00pm in the afternoon or 4:00am in the morning.

  3. The Towing & Recovery Association of Ky was founded in 1981 as a voice of the Ky towers.

The association has been involved in legislation throughout the years, had very successful tow shows in the 80s, offered training classes and updates to new laws but the biggest resource is the officers and directors have always been a phone call away to answer questions or offer other resources. Since the spring of 2020 we have only had one official meeting but we have never stopped working with legislators and taking phone calls from our membership.

In the towing industry we are competitors but there is a difference between being competitive and burning bridges. I personally believe there is strength in numbers in our industry and being a part of a association will also build business relationships that will prove to be a valuable resource. There will come a day that your operator will need assistance, a piece of support equipment brakes down in the middle of a job or a truck brakes down and a competitor can get the truck up and going quicker than you can get a resource on location.

    Next associate meeting is

    October 25th, 2022

    Buffalo Wild Rings

    250 Newtowne Square

    Morehead, Ky 40351

This post is my personal opinions and not a official message from the association.

    Thank You

    Jr Ellis
