I am looking at a 1955 Mack B61 single rear axle with what looks like a Holmes 500 size unit on the back. My question is what would the Holmes unit weigh? My guess is the B61 would weigh about 8 or 9000 lbs. I don't know if my equipment trailer can handle bringing it 200 miles or not. It has two 7,000 lb axles with brakes and single tires. My truck is a 1991 F Super duty with 7.3 IDI with E4OD. I have trailered a Cat D2 with blade with no problem for 200 miles. My guess is the Cat weighed about 10,000 lbs. I use an equilizer hitch that makes a huge difference in control with a heavy load. I don't know if the Mack will be too heavy on the rear to give negative tongue weight. My trailer width is such that the Mack will have to be loaded front forward only. The outside duals will hang off the sides of the trailer about half the tire width. It may be possible to remove the outside wheels and back it onto the trailer to fit between the trailer fenders. I plan to go look at the truck soon and maybe get some more info then. Any ideas?
