Platinum Sponsor BigWheelArchives Posted February 9, 2018 Platinum Sponsor Share Posted February 9, 2018 4-1-06 Received a call from MA State Police to respond immediately to Rte. 6 in Bourne, MA for a TT unit that went off the road and took down 400' of guardrail, then traveled up a steep embankment knocking down some high tension power lines onto the truck. They also stated that the trailer was completely across the highway blocking all traffic and the driver was trapped under the tractor portion seriously injured and they needed us there right away to lift the truck off him. We immediately sent out one of our 60 ton rotators to work with the fire rescue crew. Upon arrival, we set up our crane and lifted the tractor straight up off the driver. After the driver was airlifted from the scene, our recovery started. The first thing was to use our special straps and wrap the high voltage power lines that were laying on top of the truck and then using the rotator on one side and our Volvo HD Loader, we lifted the power lines up off the truck with the forks. Then our second 60 ton rotator was used to lift the tractor off the hill while our 35 ton HD wrecker winched the trailer backwards as the crane spun the truck off the embankment and back onto the highway below. Our crew had to use chainsaws to cut the telephone poles that were laying across the trailer. After the tractor and trailer were on the highway we set up our air bags, and working in conjuction with our rotators, we stood the entire unit up onto its wheels. After that the unit was hooked to our 35 ton wrecker and towed to our Freetown shop. We then returned to the accident scene with a dumpster, front-end loader, and a clean-up crew to pickup all the debris. We had to cut up and load all the trees, branches, and all the broken guardrails. Then we loaded the container and it was then taken to the landfill in Dartmouth, MA.
