Note: While we generally do not report officers being struck. The number of the traffic incidents which could have been a tow operator are increasing rapidly. Before long the number of officers being struck and injured or killed are going to reach record numbers. While they likely will not surpass the number of tow operators killed on the roadways. Their numbers combined with tow operators could surpass 100 annually. Our Thoughts will be with this Officer as this can be traumatic.

3 Hurt in Crash That Pinned Officer Under His Car, Police Say

Three people, including a police officer, were injured in a crash that left the officer pinned under his own vehicle Sunday morning, authorities said.

A Maryland-National Capital Park Police officer had just finished a traffic stop and was walking back to his unmarked car when he noticed a speeding vehicle, the Washington Post reported. Police say the officer tried to avoid the oncoming car, but it crashed into his vehicle, sending it across two lanes of traffic and partially trapping him underneath it.

The officer and the occupants of the oncoming car were treated at a hospital for injuries not considered to be life-threatening, police said.

The driver of the oncoming car was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, police said. The driver's identity wasn't immediately released.
