Tow truck driver killed in crash near Woodland, CA

A tow truck driver was killed in a collision with an SUV Tuesday afternoon on Highway 16, west of Woodland, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A Davis woman driving a Subaru SUV south on County Road 94B stopped at a stop sign before attempting to cross Highway 16 around 4 p.m. The tow truck driver, a Woodland man traveling eastbound on the highway, was unable to stop or avoid the Subaru, which clipped the left rear end of the tow truck, according to a news release by the CHP Woodland office.

The collision sent the tow truck off the road and down a ditch, where it overturned and came to rest on its roof, according to the CHP’s collision report.

The tow truck driver suffered fatal injuries, while the Subaru driver sustained minor injuries and was not transported to a hospital, the news release said.

The Name of the Tow Truck Driver has not been released.

Memorial fund established for family of tow-truck driver killed in crash

A memorial fund has been established for a Woodland tow-truck driver who died in a rural Yolo County collision last week.

Casey Marston, 41, who drove for Woodland’s Citizens Towing & Impound, was traveling on Highway 16 west of Woodland on Tuesday when his tow truck collided with a vehicle that had crossed the highway into his path, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Marston sustained fatal injuries in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe account has since been established to cover funeral expenses for Marston, a father of two boys. He also had served 12 years as a firefighter for the Yolo Fire Department.

“Anyone who knew Casey Marston knew he had a heart of gold. He would give you the shirt off his back and then make you the best meal you ever had,” wrote Darlene White, organizer of the GoFundMe Page

“He loved his boys and was a great dad. Always lending a helping hand to whoever needed it. There truly are no words to describe this devastating loss to this community, his family and his friends,” White wrote. “Please help us to send him on his way to his final resting place.”

Woodland Sno Shack also will hold a fundraiser from 2-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at 1320 E. Main St. in Woodland, with 25 percent of sales going to Marston’s sons.
