The McHenry Police Department and McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 9:30 p.m. Friday for a report of a vehicle rollover with fire in front of the Dunkin’ Donuts, 4502 West Elm Street. McHenry Police Department Spokesman Patrick Polidori said that a Nissan sedan was traveling eastbound on Route 120 when it rear-ended a second vehicle that was also traveling eastbound. A tow truck driver, with the help of a McHenry police officer, stopped and rescued the man trapped in the vehicle. The man was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital where a Flight For Life helicopter transferred him to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He remains in critical but stable condition. A male driver from the second vehicle who had been rear-ended by the Nissan was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Critical Accident Investigation Team, which is made of several area police departments, is investigating the crash. Route 120 was reopened eight hours later around 5:30 a.m. RESOURCE LINK
