TowNews Posted October 30, 2019 Share Posted October 30, 2019 SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — Ten stolen cars, including a tow truck, were recovered after a standoff in Santa Cruz County on Friday, the California Highway Patrol, Santa Cruz division reported. According to CHP, members of the Santa Cruz County Auto Theft Reductions and Enforcement (SCARE) task force served a search warrant on Branciforte Drive in Santa Cruz County to a convicted felon. The 44-year-old suspect barricaded himself inside a stolen RV with a shotgun for several hours before he surrendered and was arrested. (Santa Cruz County Auto Theft Reductions and Enforcement) descended on an address on Branciforte Drive in Santa Cruz County to serve a search warrant on a suspect believed to be in possession of several stolen cars. The suspect, a 44-year-old convicted felon, barricaded himself inside a stolen trailer. With the assistance of the Santa Cruz Police Department SWAT team, Officers negotiated with the suspect for several hours, which resulted in his surrender. Officers found a shotgun in the trailer and 10 stolen cars on the property, including a stolen tow truck. The auto theft task-force is a CHP led task-force which consists of multiple law enforcement agencies working together including the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, Watsonville Police Department, and the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office. This is another great example of how multiple agencies working together in partnership can help bring cases to successful conclusions.
