Stuart Wagner
A local competitor just towed a single axle pusher motor home backward by forking the Reese tow receiver. Is this ok? I thought I read years ago that towing a motor home backwards by the frame the whole unit could flex and blow side windows out? Thoughts? Anyone here tow them backwards? silverhawk
I did one several years ago. Used JerrDan 25 ton and forked the frame, not the hitch. Had to use two separate forks due to needing extra width on passenger side. I originally picked to move out of mobile home park at the Paragon Casino. Intended to swap ends once I got out of park. After getting to parking lot outside of parking area in village I decided it looked good enough to bring in 35 miles to the Cat house. Had no problems. JUSTFISHING
Got a call years ago to tow a larger MH backwards because of rear wheel bearing declined the call and they called a competitor which did the job buckled the roof I was told . Sometimes you learn the hard way to say NO!
GRUMPS The Towman
the frame cradles in the rear of most of those pusher/ coach bus chassis are "floating style" and designed to carry the weight of the drivetrain/engine centered and balanced over the drive axle. Never in a million years would i pick one aft of the rear axle especially from the hitch. If it cant get picked with a wheel grid from the rear then its on the landoll. If this particular operator had an uneventful, damage free tow then i think the tow gods were on his side that day. Quote PROFESSIONAL TOWING & RECOVERY IS NOT JUST A JOB.. SUPERIOR35
I have towed several class A salvage motor homes from the hitch with no ill effects. Don’t know if I would try a good one.
