Road Rescue TX
Has anyone put their Towmate Transmitter inside the tail light housing? I haul mostly with one on the bed and one on the wheel lift all day. Wondering about mounting my new Towmate Transmitter inside the tail light housing so it won't have the ability to sprout legs and disappear. The salesman mentioned this is sometimes an issue. If I drill a small hole and put the antenna wire out will it work ok, or do I even need to drill a hole since they are advertised to reach 1000ft. Just trying to save wear and tear on removing it several times a day.
dperone
I kept getting water in my trailer plug on the truck from leaving the transmitter plugged in. Towmate sent me a hard wired transmitter that I connected under the truck tucked up away from the road spray. Works great with no issues with the antenna reaching through the body

Orcas Tow
I hard wired mine in my overhead light bar, dry & high up for a good un obstructed signal. 2 Quote Hello from sunny (when its not raining) Orcas Island
Ehofer
I wired in a extra trailer plug socket in the cab, by the rear widow, never worry about it getting wet, or losing the transmitter.
someotherplace
The transmitter will work fine hidden inside the rear of the bed. Some of the newer trucks I've seen have an extra socket in the side box. I wired one up in the taillight housing of a Vulcan 810 years ago by taking an extra socket and popping out the insert (no need for the metal mounting flange/cover) and tapped the wires in, attached the transmitter, and zip-tied it in place so it wouldn't bounce around. Worked like a champ. Richard
