Whats this for?

I purchased this 99-older Century 411 bed for parts last night. 

 

My question is, What is the purpose of the extended length, adjustable pulley?

They add those for use at racetracks where a vehicle such as a sprint car needs to be lifted completely off the ground. The cars only weigh 1200 lbs or so- I wouldn't try to lift more than that with the one on your truck.

The 411 was a great bed. That jib appears to be homemade and may just pull out of the guide. The unit was likely used on a race car track in it's final days.

The 411 is a sweet unit. Small and light yet, very rugged and surprisingly strong for its simplicity. Good buy !!

Last one I saw like that was used at a junkyard for pulling motors.
