TowNews
A Roaring River woman has been charged in the January death of a tow-truck operator. Dorothy Dowell, of Roaring River, has been charged with driving too fast for the conditions of the roadway in relation to the incident. According to authorities, Dowell was operating the vehicle which struck and killed Benny Gray Sprinkle of State Road on Jan. 19 at about 7:30 p.m. According to Capt. Josh Tulbert of the Elkin Police Department, Sprinkle, 59, was working for Moody’s Garage on N.C. 268 Bypass west of Elkin preparing load a vehicle onto a rollback when he was struck and fatally injured by Dowell’s vehicle. Tulbert had reported previously that it had been dark and raining at the time the accident was dispatched. The charges against Dowell came following a meeting with the DA’s office, the Elkin Police Department and Sprinkle’s family, Tulbert said. “The investigation regarding the accident has been completed by the Surry County District Attorney’s Office,” reported Tulbert. “Mr. Sprinkle’s family knows that it was an accident and there was no intent involved. The family feels that everyone involved has suffered long enough and has reached out to the Dowell family to help them get through this crisis as well.” RESOURCE LINK
