This is just happening right now. I bring sad news that a driver was hit and killed N/B 101 near the Spencer Avenue off ramp. The information is from the California Highway Patrol CAD. The driver worked for Wiler's Tow in Vallejo, California. I am deeply saddened for the family of the driver and the company he works for. There are no words I can express to relay my condolences to them. If you can call them and offer support and let them know you grieve with them. I just thought I should let you all know we are all suffering from this behavior. We need to stick together and educate everyone.

Tow Truck Driver Killed In Crash On Southbound 101 In Sausalito

SAUSALITO (CBS SF) — A tow truck driver was killed along U.S. Highway 101 in Sausalito Tuesday when a vehicle lost control and struck him as he was loading a vehicle onto the truck bed.

The California Highway Patrol in Marin County the crash happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. on southbound US-101 north of Spencer Avenue in Sausalito. The incident blocked the two right lanes for about two and a half hours before authorities reopened the lanes at around 4:50 p.m.

The CHP said the tow truck driver was loading a black Prius onto the bed of the truck when a silver pick-up truck spun out and hit the tow truck. The force of the collision hit the Prius into the tow truck driver and killed him. He died at the scene.

Preliminary information indicates the female driver of the Prius had pulled to the right shoulder to call the tow truck, CHP Officer Andrew Barclay said.

The Prius driver was standing away from the vehicles and was not hurt. The Chevrolet driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Marin General Hospital, Barclay said.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected as a cause in the collision.

Tow Truck Driver Dies in Crash While Helping Disabled Vehicle on Highway 101 in Sausalito

A male tow truck driver died when a Chevrolet pickup crashed into a disabled Toyota Prius on the right-hand shoulder of southbound Highway 101 Tuesday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said.

Preliminary information indicates the female driver of the Prius pulled to the right shoulder to call a tow truck, CHP Officer Andrew Barclay said.

The tow truck driver pulled in front of the Prius and told the driver to wait outside away from the Prius, Barclay said.

As the tow truck driver worked on the Prius, the driver of a silver Chevrolet Silverado lost control of his truck and crashed into the Prius, which then struck the tow truck and tow truck driver, Barclay said.

The Prius' driver was not injured, and the Chevrolet driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Marin General Hospital, Barclay said.

The crash happened around 2:25 p.m. and southbound Highway 101 was cleared around 4:50 p.m., according to Barclay.

Tow truck driver killed on Highway 101 in Sausalito when passing motorist loses control in rain

A tow truck driver assisting a motorist on the right southbound shoulder of Highway 101 in Sausalito died after a passing vehicle lost control and crashed into his AAA tow truck Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

The AAA driver — whose name was not immediately released — was connecting a disabled Toyota Prius on the right shoulder of Highway 101 just north of Spencer Avenue and asked the Prius driver to wait inside the cab of his tow truck around 2:30 p.m., said Sgt. Bryan Williams, a spokesman for California Highway Patrol’s Marin office.

While he was connecting the Prius to his tow truck, a gray Chevrolet Silverado traveling in the far left lane lost control due to the “rainy, wet roadway,” crossed all southbound lanes and crashed into the rear of the tow truck, Williams said.

The force of the impact caused the tow truck to strike the driver, who was on the other side of the tow truck, Williams said. He died at the scene.

The driver of the Prius, who was sitting in the cab of the tow truck when it was hit, was not injured, Williams said.

The driver of the Silverado, whom police did not identify, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, Williams said. He was later transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The right two lanes of southbound 101 were temporarily closed Tuesday afternoon while officials cleared the scene.

Officials are investigating the fatal crash, Williams said.

It's important to note that the tow operator asked his AAA member to be seated in the tow truck's cab and wait for him. And, it's rare to hear the CHP indicate that the tower was reportedly working the non-traffic side. Another fool driving too fast in the rain. Christine and I send our prayers to the tow operators family and to Wiley Towing.    R.
