CHEV DURAMAX ALLISON IN LIMP MODE

Recommended Posts

My Chevy Duramax 6500 Allison tranny has started going into limp mode for no apparent reason. Tranny fluid is right where it is supposed to be, changed both fuel filters (on advice from a friend) but nothing seems to help. Does anyone know how to reset the mode indicator so it will be back to normal 6 speed and erase the LIMP MODE?? Any and all suggestions will really be appreciated !

You need a scanner to check and clear codes  Mine will stay in second gear when in limp home mode How many miles on trans ? I have 300,000 miles on my c7500 and it will do this uphill under heavy load (clutches are worn)

Perform logic lock.   Be sure to disconnect both batteries pos & neg.   Touch positve cable to negative cable. Logic lock has to be performed even after clearing codes with scanner, sometimes

Erasing the codes will not correct the issue. Once you retrieve the codes and diagnose the issue/issues and correct the problem the strategy that is programmed into the PCM/ECM will correct the limp mode issue. The strategy (programming) of the PCM/ECM that allows for limp mode is in place to ensure that you do not get stranded on the side of the road. It will allow you to "limp" home. The fuel filters were a good starting point. Let us know what codes were retrieved.

Very common problem with 1000 series transmissions is PRNDL switch.  Bolts directly behind shift lever, inexpensive & simple repair.  Be sure to clean & de burr shifter shaft before installing new switch.
