Trooper, tow truck driver hurt when car hits patrol vehicle in Renton

RENTON, Wash. — A state trooper and a tow truck driver were hurt when a driver hit a patrol vehicle on State Route 167 in Renton Thursday night.

At around 11 p.m., a trooper was blocking a lane near Interstate 405 for an earlier crash when a driver didn't move over and hit the patrol car with the trooper inside, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

The impact pushed the patrol car into a tow truck driver who was standing outside.

Both the trooper and the tow truck driver were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver who struck the patrol car told troopers at the scene that they were unable to merge over in time.

WSP confirmed that the driver was not impaired.

Thursday's incident marks the sixth state patrol car hit in King County in the last five days, according to WSP.
