Two children were critically hurt during the accident.

KENDRICK — Four people, including two children, were injured in a crash involving a tow truck Tuesday evening on Northwest Gainesville Road.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said the injured were taken by ambulance to Ocala Regional Medical Center.

Three of the four people injured — an Ocala woman and her two children, ages 2 and 20 months — were in the car, authorities said. Troopers said they were listed in critical condition. The two children were later transferred to Shands.

As of 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, troopers said the boy, identified as Delay Rocker, and his sister, Ivyana Rocker, were in critical condition.

A passenger in the tow truck, Caren Mills, 52, of Ocala, was treated and later released, FHP officials said.

In the car, troopers said, neither the woman, Danielle L. James, 24, nor her children were wearing their seat belts. FHP officials said there were no car seats or booster seats found in the mangled vehicle.

Mills also was not wearing her seat belt, troopers said.

Marion County Fire Rescue was dispatched to the accident at 7:48 p.m., according to fire officials. The crash was in the 6400 block of Northwest Gainesville Road.

MCFR spokesman James Lucas said firefighters arrived at 7:54 p.m. and had to extricate the woman from the car. They completed the extrication at 8:08 p.m.

Troopers said the tow truck, John Clayton Douglas Jr., 55, was traveling north on the highway and the car, a 1997 Buick Park Avenue, was traveling south. The driver of the tow truck told troopers that, as he was approaching a left hand curve, the car was in his lane.

The man, who troopers said was wearing a seat belt, said he tried to avoid hitting the car by swerving to the left, but was unable to avoid the collision. The two vehicles collided head-on.

The truck has markings indicating it is affiliated with Carl Johnson Towing of Ocala.

Douglas told the Star-Banner in a brief interview that he was driving and, as he came around the curve, the woman’s vehicle was in his lane and her vehicle struck the truck. Douglas said he was fine and was trying to get to the hospital to be with his wife.
