From Geri Roskopf's Blog:

When opportunity knocks, you need to take advantage of that opportunity. That opportunity happened for my husband and I this past weekend.

I was helping plan my family reunion, which happened to take place in July on the same day as our granddaughter’s birthday party. She lives in Indiana, so it didn’t work out to be able to attend both celebrations.

A week ago, I was looking at the schedule of upcoming tow shows and saw that the Indiana Towing and Wrecker Association (ITWA) was holding their tow show August 5-6. I emailed ITWA president Sue Moreland and advised her that we were trying to plan a trip to see our son and his family, and thought we might also attend their show. Sue said it was not too late to register, and hoped we would be able to come down. The next call was to the hotel to see if there was a room available, and there was. And last but not least, we made sure we had extra coverage of employees for the weekend.

I couldn’t believe our plans to get away were falling into place. As you know, in this industry that often does not happen.

The ITWA held a great show. Board members Tom, Sue and Crystal, and all of the members, vendors and speakers we met were so welcoming. The ladies luncheon was a fun event for me — meeting other tow ladies and participating in a purse raffle. While talking to towers, conversations always seemed to include the challenges of high fuel prices and the shortage of employees.

We then headed down to visit our son and his family to celebrate our granddaughter’s birthday. It was a great, fun-filled couple of days.

My advice: When opportunity knocks, push that door open.
