80 GMC GENERAL HOLMES 850

Bought this holmes 850 recently in uk. im told originally it came from California, on the mudflaps it has L.A CITY, the zack has been added later it still has 295 hitch with typical cali flat plate conversion would love to hear from anyone who remembers this truck and has any info about it. i intend to remove the zack and put it back to original.

I love Generals! Never seen one with an 850. What a great combo, glad to hear you are removing the Zack and returning it to original. Keep us posted on the progress.

Thanks for reply,s, i have allways wanted a General with a big cummins and an 850 so for me its a perfect combination, its pretty good spec  400 cummins w/jake brake, 13spd , heavy hendrickson rear end, double frame , and with bit of history having been built new for L.A city even now 30 years on the gears sprockets and bits on the crane tell me its never worked hard all the boom pins etc are very tight, would love to get more history on truck and a photo when L.A had it Danny aka the wash boss thinks they had two the same and they were white with black booms.
