TowTimes
Wheel chocks are inclined-plane devices or wedges designed to prevent a vehicle’s wheels from doing what they were intended to do – roll. When a two truck is parked on a level surface, it’s basically held in place by gravity and a degree of tire resistance. Dial in any surface incline, the customer who left their vehicle in neutral with the park brake off, or the tow operator bumping the vehicle with an auto loader and the vehicle to be towed is going to roll. (Note: Running after the vehicle and yelling at it to stop doesn’t work.) Also, as an operator loads or unloads a car carrier, the weight transfer can be enough to make the tow truck roll away if its wheels are not chocked properly.
