TowZone Posted December 28, 2021 Posted December 28, 2021 How many vehicles are currently on Hold in your Storage Lot? Is there a time limit on those Hold vehicles in your Storage Lot? Before you reply, I should clarify the question. I am seeking numbers of impounds that have actual HOLDS on them rather than impounds waiting a specific amount to time before they can be liquidated. Normally that is 45 to 90 days, whereas Hold vehicles can sit for months or years. How many of the current vehicles in the tow lot have a Police or Fire Hold on them? JH said: I keep the vehicle on hold until the agency releases the hold. Some of our holes are dictated by insurance and registration. BRH said Every police department has different standards and protocols. Some actually may be held longer if it’s a crime scene etc so there’s really not a straight forward answer unless you go by your contract with the department. CF said: 45 days all cars except police hold ..hold them as long as police say to hold could be months usually if it's going to be a very long hold they will take it to there police impound ..talking years..there is a car there that's been there since 1976 involved in a homicide that was never solved JDD said: I have 1 camper in my impound and a pickup in the Sheriffs impound that has a law enforcement hold. Both involved in a murder and labeled as evidence. They will be in impound until the court case is resolved. Hopefully, it will be fairly quick as both arrested have confessed. RN said: 1 right now Usually they take them to the barracks where we are and unless its a fatal or evidence 2-3 weeks and then we get em back. 1 week if its just a search warrant. We had em take cars and give em back a few hours later. Fatals usually a few months. Evidence is the long holds because they have to resolve the case first and convict. Often the registered owner isn't the one who was driving when it got impounded and they are able to get a release before the thirty days is up. I've probably only seen half a dozen cars over ten years where the hold was indefinite and not limited to a certain amount of time. Each time when the 30 days passed and it still wasn't released, the tow company owner made contact with the detective who put the lien on it and they would say they completely forgot about the car and remove the hold immediately. TA said: I operated in California for 53 years and we never had agencies "forget" vehicles. But then l had one staff member that just handled lien sales and managed all in storage vehicles. CS said: I have 2 on PD evidence hold. MK said Normally no more than 5 days on hold. In Florida if it sits on hold more than 5 days the agency placing the hold could be responsible for storage JM said: We hold them till they are released but what sucks is we can't charge storage ZM said: I worked for a company that had 7 or 8 vehicles that had 3 or 4 year olds on them and still holding IT said: In pa ...as a salvor if towed from the street as a abandoned we start abandoned vehicle process, but if we tow it as a police tow, we have to hold it 20 days then start the process...we currently have 200plus cars. Takes average 4/6 months to get a salvage title HM said: Long term holds are only a few a month while undergoing a multiple jurisdiction investigation! Maybe 10 - 15 on law infractions monthly but we only due 5 small municipalities, but now when you say non retrievable vehicles maybe 50/100 at times RP said: the longest one I have ever had with a police hold is 6 months. Every time the insurance company tried getting it, I would call the detective in charge and get a yeah or nah. PJS said: Currently have 2 vehicles inside storage on police holds. 1 vehicle was used in a homicide and the other was a vehicle used in a deadly hit and run. Vehicles must be held inside for years until all court proceedings are finished. I cant do a thing with them. TS said: No limit. We have cars from over 10 years ago still stacked on top of each other lol NL said: Have over 100 cars sitting in both of our lots for PD. Only a few on police hold, mainly just 12hr holds due to DUI. People do not wanna come pay for their cars apparently also the insurance companies are slow of lately Quote
