PARK RIDGE, IL — Police are looking for a man who struck at least 14 vehicles on a erratic hit-and-run spree around Park Ridge on the morning of New Year's Eve. Park Ridge police first got a call around 9 a.m. Sunday that a tow truck had struck a tree in the 2300 block of West Oakton Street and drove off with a tree limb wedged in its towing apparatus.

Police got a series of calls throughout the morning as the out-of-control white tow truck broke windows and damaged cars as it drove southeast down the Northwest Highway.

There were more accidents reported in Chicago and the truck was later seen in Des Plaines and the Tri-State tollway. Des Plaines police confirmed at least one report of a hit-and-run is believed to involve the tow truck.

The truck was described as a newer model Dodge with a Triple A logo on its doors, police said.

Police are reviewing traffic and tollway video of the incidents and searching for the driver, who was described as a white or Hispanic man.

Police had not immediately identified the owner, operator or license pate number of the car, according to a news release Thursday.

A Triple A spokesperson said Friday it does not believe the truck is part of its company owned fleet or operated by a related independent service providers. The truck pictured doesn't have the company's required branding – including a logo on its hood and doors and red and blue striping along the bottom of its doors. The spokesperson said the company had offered Park Ridge police any assistance it could.

Anyone with any information about the incidents was asked to call the Park Ridge Police Department at 847-318-5252
