ProTower Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 I worked a semi rollover where seed grain was spilled and how do utilize a grain vac and farm tractor in order to suck it all up and reload on another trailer. We were able to salvage 99% of the load without issue. The vet consisted of a John Deere tractor with a grain vacuum attachment and a five man crew. The vacuum recovery job took approximately five hours. I’ve never had a situation like this and I’m not sure what to charge don’t want to overcharge the customer and certainly don’t want to under charge either. I’m hoping some of you have some experience with this and can give me a few ideas. Some of the details: the farm tractor value $70,000 the grain vac value $40,000 and the seed load value $130,000. doingitall Posted October 30, 2021 Posted October 30, 2021 I live in a rural area, and I am still involved directly in farming row crops. Grain vacs are pretty easy to source in my area. I do not think the values of the equipment involved is that much of an issue unless the equipment does not exist in your area otherwise. You did not have to purchase the equipment I hope ... ! Did you sub-contract this portion of the recovery? If so, take that bill and add your percentage/mark-up to the bill and submit with your portion at your regular rates. That is what we do in my area, we call a local coop or ag resource and they perform the grain recovery as a sub-contractor. If you rented the equipment and provided the labor, then you already know your costs, and can add your regular mark-up. Obviously you also had to hire a grain hopper trailer and power unit to load the recovered grain and had to transport and store that as well. Would need a lot more info to help decide what you should charge. Do you have the numbers for your costs? Quote
