bigiron Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 Looking at a Holmes 600 complete with body. I thought that I had the specs somewhere as far as weight goes. Of course I can't find that PDF now. Anyone know what one of these jewels weighs? Want to make sure I take the proper size trailer if it follows me home. Thanks Marshall Quote
GRUMPS The Towman Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 I dont know the exact weight of it but my educated guess is between 4-6,000 lbs. I do remember they were heavy lil f@#kers.. Hung a few on n off chassis back in the day with dad. Good luck. Post pics if you do buy it please Quote PROFESSIONAL TOWING & RECOVERY IS NOT JUST A JOB.. IT IS A LIFESTYLE
bigiron Posted February 13, 2021 Author Posted February 13, 2021 I was thinking close to 6000 pounds. Looking to build a short wheel base 4*4 recovery truck. Split booms would be perfect for side work Quote
GRUMPS The Towman Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 Your probably right being closer to 6k, I was trying to throw a wide berth on my guesstimate. Lol. On the right chassis with the right set up, It would be a KILLER off-road recovery rig. Those split boom 600's will pull ANYTHING when rigged right.. they are unstoppable . If you do end up building it, please start a thread on it. I would love to watch the progress and see how it turns out. Good luck !!! Quote PROFESSIONAL TOWING & RECOVERY IS NOT JUST A JOB.. bigiron Posted February 13, 2021 Author Posted February 13, 2021 Found the spec sheet from 1971. Body only is 1650, 600 only is 2600. Total is 4250 plus 500 of dirt and gravel. I have wanted to do a project like this for 20 plus years. Marshall Quote
EdsTowing Posted February 14, 2021 Posted February 14, 2021 Curious what chassis are you going to put it on? Quote
bigiron Posted February 14, 2021 Author Posted February 14, 2021 Not sure at this point. Thinking old iron, 60's/70's. Seen a autocar LB series a few years back that looked nice. Engine and front hood stuck out in front of front axle. Reminded me of a platapus. Maybe an Oshkosh. I'll know when I find it LOL. Marshall 1 Quote
EdsTowing Posted February 14, 2021 Posted February 14, 2021 I built one 20 some years ago that was a pretty cool truck... Good luck with it. 1 Quote
