TowBot
Editor’s Note: Flashback F-100s of Reidsville, N.C., sells parts for 1948-2008 Ford trucks. Ninety percent of theirparts come from Ford trucks purchased in the western U.S. They make regular trips to the West Coast and bring theFords back to their salvage yard in North Carolina. This is our 2020 Model 337 Peterbilt with Jerr-Dan rollback. The truck has an extended cab, dual air ride seats and air ride suspension for those long trips to the West Coast, plus an air dump valve for low-profile vehicles. We told Eastern Wrecker Sales Inc., in Clayton, N.C., to remove the standard toolboxes and we installed 48-inch stainless steel boxes to carry air hoses/air tools, hand tools, chains, straps, etc. The truck is pictured on one of its many trips bringing trucks from the West Coast. Here it is on I-8 just east of Gila Bend, Ariz., bringing two more Fords in. You see a lot of trucks that tow locally, but the real challenge is to tow a vehicle on the wheel-lift cross-country between 2,300 to 2,700 miles where anything can happen with these old Ford trucks. We carry several spare tires already mounted on 15- and 16-inch wheels for any situation and install them on trucks before we leave the West Coast. We have been doing this type of hauling for over 20 years and now have two rollbacks in service. Our other truck is a 2008 F-650 crew cab with 48-inch sleeper and a Jerr-Dan steel 21-foot bed. We depend on these trucks to take us all over the USA and the Northwest provinces of Canada for these old trucks.
