  1. Yea there used to be quite a few Nomar's in our area. Neussbaum's was dealer back in the day. I never ran one my self but this looks capable.
  2. It was a tough situation...I got a funny feeling as soon as I looked in the truck. It had that "Living quarters" look about it. I called our guy at Uhaul and asked him to run the truck number for me. Comes back it's over due since the 2nd, local "in town" rental from up State NY... So I said...well it's certainly not local, and the guy told me he was coming back from South Carolina! The guy was homeless, trying to get enrolled in a local truck driving academy to get a CDL and crashed on the way to his appointment. Everything he owns is in the truck and Uhaul isn't giving him another unit. He needed to get 35 miles away to a Salvation army rehab center where he could sleep for the night...I ended up taking him there because he didn't have much money and I didn't want him sleeping in the yard. Guy was a veteran in the early 90's and it appears he can't get his life together. I don't know what's going to happen with his stuff? Usually they have me discard the contents when the customer doesn't come back. I guess we will see how it turns out...
  3. The weather by us has been a little crazy lately... Last week we had sub freezing all week. The other night I was out with a loaded gas truck and it was 33 deg and raining... Some of the most miserable weather you can work in...it's much easier to just deal with the snow if it's going to happen... Yesterday I went to Jersey to pick up this dump truck a friend of ours bought and it was in the high 40's and beautiful...Nice day for a ride...
  4. Got a call for a crash yesterday on the interstate. We didn't know what size truck it was so we kind of responded with everything we could need...Found out it was just a 1 ton box truck on it's side... I think he dozed off...went behind the guard rail and up the bank. Then he dug in and it flipped on it's right side on top of the median hill.... An easy roll, then we winched it to the top where it was level for the officer to go through it... Had more iron then we needed but better to be safe then sorry...
  5. When we got it all blasted, we noticed that it had a broken leaf spring in the rear...odd place for it to break but we got a new set from Ford and figured we would get them swapped in prior to paint. The last time we tried a pair of aftermarket springs on a 550, it ruined the ride quality of the truck. So to me, it was worth the couple hundred extra to get OEM springs. While it was in, we had my guys mount the back plate to the frame so again, everything gets painted. So now it's officially in the body shop to be refinished. We will start the engine build and reassembly in the next couple of days...
  6. Had the chance to stop by an old friends yesterday in Scranton, Jim Morell's Towing. No such thing as a "quick" visit to Jimmy's but it's as much my fault as anybody...the place is just "rich" in towing history and the stories are second to none. Anyway, I took a couple shots of this unit that he put back in to service while one of his other wreckers is getting some rehab work done to it.... It's a 83 K30, 4wd w/ a 454 & 4 Spd. It has a 10 ton Nomar twin line with a 3 stage add on wheel lift... Jimmy is the second owner of the truck and he knows the history of it since new... She just flipped 50,000 miles yesterday on a call...and ready for more! It's a great place to visit but you should go during the day light so you can get the "tour" of the history of the towing industry from a guy who's lived & worked through most of it!
  7. We prime, seal and paint them with regular acrylic enamel paint. The finish will be like a car.
  8. That is just nuts....you have to wonder if her intention was to kill herself? POS takes the innocent people with her though...Sad.
  9. We were able to get a couple trucks blasted this past week, including this chassis. It's in the body shop now to get painted tomorrow... The new engine stuff came in this week as well so I'm anxious to get the guys back on this... It seems I always have so many projects going simultaneously it's difficult to function and get stuff done...LoL I'm hoping to have the chassis back together and the cab done & back on in the next 3 weeks. Then we can mount the body and finish all of the accessories & "bling". Since my other dump left, it's kind of hot to get this completed.
  10. We set up our fuel tank in the truck with a 30 amp power supply in the bed, controlled by one of the "Up fitter" switches, and a flexible cord so we can move the tray back without messing with wiring... Then we mounted a hose real to the tank body itself for disbursement along with a gauge & a filter system.... This way we can remove 2 retainer bolts and the entire assembly comes out as one unit for storage if we want. We only need the mobile fuel ability in the winter months.
  11. Yea we will find someone...it will make somebody a good truck. It was a special order chassis with all of the after treatment inside the frame so we could get duel tanks and a nice tool box set up w/ a basket.
  12. They got me one of these 12 volt chargers and it works good.
  13. Yea it is. I didn't have a problem with my regular style but we are trying this set up. I have a charger set up in the cabinet so I always keep one on charge. All my tools are m-18 as well.
  14. We don't do many trash trucks anymore because, well...I don't like doing them...LoL But these folks are local and needed a transmission issue looked at so I went & got it. Had to "work" a bit to get it out of the garage it was in but I got it... I hate crawlin around under them.... They got me a new Towmate light at the show but the bungee cords are kind of short...I just ran a strap across the back to secure the light to. It was pretty nasty under there so I steam cleaned under the truck when I got back so the guys don't have to work in the mess...
  15. Our new rollback is going to be completed in the next few weeks so I wanted to put our 22 Pete carrier out there if anyone has any interest... It's got a 300 hp Cummins, Auto, Air Ride, Air Brake, Air Locker Rear Diff, LP 22.5's, Duel Tanks, all cab options, 102" Steel body w/ Aluminum removable rails. The truck has 65,000 mi on it and we have extensive service/maintenance records... Truck presents as new. All of the maintenance & service items will be completed prior to sale. This has been a one driver truck that handles weight incredibly (basically a down rated 31k chassis to under CDL), and drives perfect. It's basically getting replaced w/ the same truck with a few extra tweaks. Let me know if anyone needs more pics or specific information. The sale price is $125,000
  16. Since we took the cab off anyway, we will paint it off. I set it up on a pallet to move it around and can be set up on a lift I have in the body shop. This way he can get it much lower and it's easier to paint. Just have to be extra careful setting it back on the chassis.
  17. Dam...those would be some "true Holmes Trees"...and perfectly positioned at that! Nice work.
  18. I agree. The bank never got possession of it. It was more like vandalism...
  19. This one was a little odd... Got a call to jumpstart a 20 KW 680 tractor that parks in a lot up the street from ours. Pretty regular situation... My guy gets there and tries to jump it but there is no dash or cranking - all the lights are strong though. I told him that he was done then and to find out if the guy wanted it towed somewhere. The owner states he wanted it towed to a TA in New Jersey so we make the arrangements. Not where I would take it, (you go there to get a tire put on...not electrical diagnosis) but we were too busy to get in to it so that's where it will go... Talking to the steering wheel holder and he says it's his 1st day on the job. Got sent to pick this truck up that has been sitting since the previous driver quit. Seemed odd to have a problem like this unless something was going on prior to it being parked but whatever? I take it 25 miles to Jersey and drop it in their shop...got paid...and head home. On the way home, I got thinking about a week or so ago, we were sitting in my shop one night and saw a car wrecker come in my yard on the cameras and drive around the building. He parks it in a hidden spot so I immediately head out there with an appropriate amount of hate, discontent & attitude to resolve the situation. Turns out it's a couple of guys repossessing a truck that they said is "pinging" here on my property. I show them the error in their ways and instill a little bit of the fear of God in to them and assure them that there isn't a 2020 Kenworth on my property. He tells me the address and I said it was the lot across the street maybe. They leave in a hurry and it's the last I see of them. Didn't think any more in to it. So I Get a call yesterday morning to go back to pick the truck up and tow it back up here, to Kenworth of Scranton because the truck stop couldn't fix it. They did sell him 2 tires though so all wasn't lost for them. When I get there, their shop manager tells me that the wiring is all messed up at the back of the ignition switch and they recommended taking it to the dealer. Now it's coming together...LoL I bet those rocket scientists that were scouring around in the dark at my place, tried to "hot wire" this truck & take it? I'm sure they seen it on TV...all you got to do is rapidly touch the 2 wires together and they start up... So I go back to Jersey and pick it up right where I left it, and head to Kenworth... I told the dealer there are 2 issues... One is the wiring is messed up at the ignition switch and two, a bank is looking for the truck so plan accordingly. So here's the question of the day...this guy has spent like $1500 with us plus whatever the dealer charges for the repairs, does he have recourse with the Bank's Agent that started this problem? I'd be pretty ticked off if it was my truck. I have to admit...I'm curious as to how all this ends.
  20. Very true...we get on scene and the tires will be all tore up...will probably need a transmission in a few days...LoL. We brought a late model Super Duty dump in the other day from one of our customers. They got stuck and bored until they ripped the axle shafts in half.... We replace the shafts on both sides and do all the seals & brakes ect... Then when my guy pulls the front cover to service the differential while it's there and finds the teeth broken off of the pinion gear as well! So now, back apart and overhaul the complete rear... It was like $6000 when we were done...to save a 300 winch out? Been running Fords since 1986...I have only seen the front axle blown up like this once before which was 3 years ago for the same company...
  21. Had a good one the other night. Utility truck went back a private rd through the woods to a Log Cabin to repair the cable TV and slid off the road. He kept trying until it got in to the trees and did some damage to the truck...then I guess they didn't have a choice... Pics don't do the hill justice... It was pretty steep and ice under the snow... It slid sideways in to the tree which made the only option was to extract it sideways... Ran a line from a tree to pull it sideways and a 2 part line to the rear to bring it up the hill... It tore the driveway up pretty good but I didn't have a lot of choice. My "Spade" attachment hooks to the bottom of the boom and works great but then the boom couldn't be raised up for some vertical lift. I had to use it though since I was pulling more then my wrecker weighed. Once it was strait, I hooked the other line on the back to help bring it up the hill. Pulled the wrecker up & over the hill so we could winch it to level ground... Got him out with no further damage to the truck which was new. Driveway was a little tore up but the Utility company was going to deal with that. Then I followed the guys back out to the main road which was basically the equivalent of a sleigh ride to Grandma's... I wasn't to impressed with the bridge at the end but we didn't have any choice since it was the only way in... I enjoy doing work with the little truck & being the "Under Dog" on the job...it's challenging.
