  1. Inventive LLC has announced it will build a new state of the art manufacturing facility in Mountain Home, Idaho. President Chuck Ceccarelli stated that the 65,000-square-foot main production facility will be used to manufacture products for their three product lines: In The Ditch Towing Products, Razorback Offroad and Fish Fighter Products. The company has outgrown its current facility in Mountain Home, a company press release states, and looks forward to expansion. The new facility will feature advanced manufacturing principles with a focus on automation and employee retention. The expansion will also include a new 20,000 square-foot corporate office center with a new employee exercise center, 80-person training room, cafeteria, show room and recording studio used to produce the company’s weekly podcast, “Inside In The Ditch.” Retaining employees and recruiting new talent is a major focus of this expansion. “We want to build a facility that everyone will want to work in and be proud of. The project has been made possible by the City of Mountain Home’s willingness to work with us. The support of the mayor, Economic Development Office and city council has been instrumental,” said Ceccarelli. Construction on the new facilities is expected to be complete by September 2020. 2. TRAA Press Release: FMCSA is considering a pilot program to allow drivers under 21 to operate commercial motor vehicles in interstate commerce. As FMCSA Administrator Raymond Martinez outlined during TRAA’s Legislative Action Day in March, allowing qualified CDL drivers under 21 may get more young professionals into the industry and elevate some of the driver shortage. Several states already allow 18 year olds to qualify for a CDL license to drive within state borders (intrastate) only but federal law prohibits them from driving across state lines (interstate) until they are 21. Insurance for under 21 drivers may be attainable under a number of established conditions available in most states. Note, FMCSA’s pilot program is independent of the DRIVE-Safe Act (H.R. 1374) currently in the subcommittee on highways and transit. FMCSA is seeking public input on their proposed pilot program. The TRAA Cabinet and the TRAA Legislative Advocacy Network® (TRAA LAN®) are asking for comments in support of the pilot. To view the docket and to make comment, please visit Docket ID FMCSA-2018-0346 and select “COMMENT NOW.” If you need help, see the press release here . Not sure what to say? 6. Clinton Simmons, 30, of Lebanon, Ind., A repairman working to fix a broken down truck was struck and killed on Interstate 74 Wednesday afternoon. State police say 30-year-old Clinton Simmons of Lebanon was called to repair a tire on a box truck on I-74 near SR 39 in Hendricks County. As Simmons finished the repair and started to put his tools back in his truck, a semi struck the box truck, pushing it into Simmons' vehicle and striking the victim. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the semi driver, identified as Steven Sanchez of Indianapolis, may have fallen asleep before leaving the road and striking the box truck. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. Sanchez was flown by helicopter to St. Vincent Hospital for treatment. The driver of the box truck was not injured, police said. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Myers Mortuary, Lebanon, Indiana. Funeral Services are to be held on Saturday, May 18, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home in Lebanon. Tow Times Article Link Facebook Page Link

  9. I’m often frustrated when I don’t know how to do something new on my computer or smartphone. I’m a hands-on learner and need to be shown, then told the hows and whys something is done to completely understand. I also like to write down instructions. Doing these things helps me process what I’m learning. Show me and I’ll understand much better than if you just tell me. As my three-year-old niece use to say: “Me do myself.” If you have the latest and greatest — whether it be a new cell phone, washing machine or heavy-duty tow truck — it won’t do you much good if you don’t know how to use it to its fullest capacity. You can have the shiniest tow truck loaded with all the specialized equipment, but if you can’t operate it properly, what good is having it? There’s been a lot of debate with regard to training, certification and plain old “learning on the job.” Each is valid and critical to doing a good job; it doesn’t matter if you’re a tow operator, dispatcher or office manager. When you have training, certification and on-the-job experience, the bonus is that when you have the latest and greatest in technology and equipment, you can use all of these to make your job better and easier, and work smarter, not harder.
