No one ever said towing would be easy, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few tricks to make your day-to-day life more manageable. From eating better to organizing your cab, these tow tips outline simple improvements that not only help make things better, they can also keep you and others safe.

Energy Boosting Snacks

Energy drinks and potato chips might do the trick for an hour or two, but to sustain the energy you need to keep up your productivity, you’ll want to consider some healthy options. Don’t worry, kale chips and quinoa aren’t the only health foods. Try out a few of these quick bites when you’re feeling a little sluggish before a big job.

  • Cheese, Crackers, and Pepperoni: Some low fat cheese, multi-grain crackers, and turkey pepperoni make a protein-packed snack sure to satisfy your taste buds and up your energy.
  • Protein Bars: One little bar can pack quite a punch. There are countless options out there, so you’re bound to find something that tickles your taste buds’ fancy. Whatever you choose make sure it is loaded with “real” ingredients rather than added sugar, preservatives, and chemicals you can’t pronounce.
  • Turkey Roll-Ups: These take a little more planning, but they’re certainly worth it. Grab some turkey, your favorite sliced cheese, and a dab of light mayo. Wrap it all up in a spinach tortilla, and you have a healthy snack to keep you running strong. Pair it with apples, bananas, and peanut butter to turn it into an energy boosting lunch.

Backup Safety Bag

The last thing you want is to get stuck in a tricky situation without the gear you need. Think about all the tools you use to keep safe, and imagine what would happen if some of it was suddenly out of commission. Not a pretty picture, is it? Pick up a cheap duffel bag and load it up with backup high-visibility apparel, a spare pair of boots, extra lighting, and any crucial tools. It might be a bit of an investment, but having peace of mind is worth the price.

Get Your Gadgets in Gear

Those high tech solutions that make your job so much easier can also cause danger on the road. Trying to juggle multiple devices not only distracts you from the road, it also wastes time. Do what you can to condense your tech into one device, but if you can’t do that, at least make sure each piece has a home in the car. A phone flying through your windshield will do nothing to make your work day easier. Look around for phone/GPS holders and grips that will keep your gadgets accessible, but not distracting.

Keeping Paperwork Organized

From invoices to gas receipts, it’s easy for your cab to turn into a paper warzone. With a cheap accordion file and some dedication, you can quickly turn things around. Label each slot of the file with a type of paper you often find in your truck. It will take time to get in the habit of filing things right when you get them, but eventually it will be second nature. Getting things in order and breaking the habit of tossing papers up on the dash might take a while, but it’s worth the effort to have a clean truck and to stop wasting time digging around for that lost invoice.

Towing Tips

Co-Pilot Safety

You know the road can be dangerous, so you always buckle up, but what about your tow dog? Whether you or your company have a furry friend that likes to come along for rides, it’s important to have the right gear. A simple pup seatbelt harness keeps you and your dog safe. Fido won’t be able to jump on your lap mid ride, and you’ll be able to focus on the road without giving up your furry co-pilot.
